San Francisco Animal Care & Control

For animal care, adoption and pet support in the Mission and across San Francisco, San Francisco Animal Care & Control is here to help. We run the city's animal shelter, where we take excellent care of the animals in our keeping and handle much of their medical and behavioral care before they move on to adoption.

Our adoption process is simple and straightforward, and our team takes care to make sure new pet families are set up for success, including checking that renters have landlord approval and the right paperwork in place. We also serve families who are facing hard moments with their pets, and our staff are known for being compassionate and understanding when people need help with the end-of-life care of a beloved animal.

Our team works closely with partners like Vets in Vans, whose gentle veterinary professionals provide care on site for pets of all kinds. We're proud to support pet owners across San Francisco and the surrounding area.
