About
Discipline, focus, and confidence: that's what we offer at Karatedo Shinyokai, a traditional karate school in El Cerrito serving families and adults across Contra Costa County and the East Bay. Our training is built around the Mind Body Dojo approach, where students develop coordination, self-awareness, and a calm, steady mind alongside strong fundamentals.
Sensei Mark gives every student individual attention and guidance, so beginners and returning practitioners alike can see real progress from one class to the next. Our kids' classes teach respect, responsibility, and perseverance, and many students grow noticeably more confident and mature over time.
Adult students find a workout that sharpens technique while teaching philosophies they carry into everyday life. Visitors who train with us often say the community is warm, supportive, and welcoming from the very first lesson.
