About
GRID Alternatives is a non-profit solar installer in Oakland's Golden Gate neighborhood focused on bringing clean energy to households that might otherwise be left out of the solar economy. We provide solar installation at no cost to qualifying households, many of them low-income families across Oakland and the East Bay.
Our team works closely with homeowners from the first conversation through installation, keeping communication clear at every step. When a home needs electrical work to support a solar system, we cover the cost of that upgrade as part of the project.
We also run volunteer programs and hands-on workshops that give people the chance to help install rooftop solar and learn the trade. Our volunteers and trainees learn the work alongside experienced staff, and many find it a rewarding way to give back to their community.
